Search Engine Optimization: Share the Wealth

Web sites are in a fight for their life – on a daily basis. Just as businesses compete on a regular basis with other companies that offer similar products and services, web sites must also differentiate themselves in an ultra competitive environment. In terms of helping web sites gain traction and make themselves noticeable to their target audience, search engine optimization has become the tool of choice.

The core of search engine optimization for most web sites is the inclusion of keyword rich content that will help raise a web site’s page rankings on the search engines. Such content requires the choosing of relevant keywords and keyword phrases that will best differentiate a web site from their competition. With the inclusion of such keywords – used in continually updated content – web sites are able to raise their visibility with the search engines and ultimately increase web traffic and reach their target audience.

But the other part of search engine optimization is the inclusion of reciprocal links on a web site. There has been much back and forth regarding the effectiveness of reciprocal links; but SEO experts still agree that it is a valuable tool in the quest to increase web traffic.

By linking to other relevant and reputable sites, web sites engaging in search engine optimization have the opportunity to hitch their wagon to a site that may have already achieved a certain level of optimization. The point of reciprocal links is to essentially provide a web site with a “vote” of confidence; the more links that a web site is able to include with other relevant web sites the higher their page rankings on the search engines. By sharing the wealth of optimization with other sites – through the use of reciprocal links – web sites are able to increase web site traffic.
